1 large onion, finely chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 green bell peppers, diced
1 can kidney beans, drained and rinsed
1 can black beans, drained and rinsed
1 can crushed tomatoes
Black Box Cabernet
tomato paste
chili powder
cumin powder
paprika
dried oregano
cayenne pepper
olive oil
unsweetened cocoa powder
brewed strong coffee
Salt and black pepper
shredded cheddar cheese, sour cream, chopped green onions, fresh cilantro, and a sprinkle of dark chocolate shavings

Directions

Instructions:

  • In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and garlic, sautéing until they become translucent.
  • Add the ground beef to the pot and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks.
  • Stir in the diced green peppers and continue to cook for another 3-5 minutes until the peppers start to soften.
  • Pour in the red wine, stirring to deglaze the bottom of the pot. Allow the wine to simmer for a couple of minutes, reducing slightly.
  • Add the crushed tomatoes, kidney beans, black beans, tomato paste, chili powder, cumin, paprika, dried oregano, cayenne pepper, cocoa powder, and coffee. Stir well to combine.
  • Bring the chili to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and let it simmer for at least 1-2 hours.
  • Adjust the seasoning to taste. If you prefer a thicker chili, you can let it simmer uncovered for the last 30 minutes.
  • Serve the chili hot, topped with shredded cheddar cheese, a dollop of sour cream, chopped green onions, fresh cilantro, and a sprinkle of dark chocolate shavings for an unexpected, luxurious touch.

This unique twist adds a subtle chocolatey undertone and a hint of coffee, making your chili stand out with a complex and intriguing flavor profile. Enjoy the deliciously distinctive result!
