Mexican Grilled Cheese Chili

"My family loves sourdough grilled cheese sandwiches, Mexican food, and chili. Together, these ingredients make the most delicious chili ever! Smoky chili with hints of mole, creamy flavorful salsa con queso, tangy pepper jack cheese and buttery Mexican cheese blend, topped with guacamole, sour cream, cilantro, and roasted pepita seeds, served over spicy, crispy sourdough taco fries. The Black Box Pinot Noir with strawberry, red cherry and notes of toasty oak compliments the richness of the dish without being overpowering."

Mexican Grilled Cheese Chili

Directions:

  • Preheat oven broiler to 400 degrees.
  • Stir together the taco seasoning and melted butter. Brush the sourdough bread pieces on both sides with the taco butter.  Broil for 1 minute, flip the pieces over and broil for another minute, until crispy.  Place sourdough taco fries on a paper towel lined plate.
  • In medium sized bowl, mix together the ground sirloin, chorizo, cocoa powder, cumin, chili powder, coriander and oregano. Brown the meats in a medium sized skillet over medium heat for 10 minutes. Drain excess fat. Stir in the black beans and salsa.
  • In an oven safe serving dish, place the sourdough fries on the bottom, top the fries with the salsa con queso, followed by the chili, pepper jack cheese and Mexican cheese blend. Place under broiler for 1 minute.  Remove and top with guacamole, sour cream, cilantro and pepita seeds. Enjoy!
