Grandma’s Zesty Chili

"Spices filled the air as the pot sizzled on the counter. Grandma was busy in the kitchen making her Zesty Chili. I can still smell the aroma many years later. Delicious and nutritional, it was the perfect meal for adults and kids alike."

yellow onion 1, 1, 1, 1, 5 cloves, 1 lb, 5 slices, 1x 14ox can, 1 can, 1 cup, 1 tablespoon, 3-5 tablespoons (start with 3 and add more as desired)
large bell pepper diced
zucchini diced
large carrot diced
minced garlic
grass fed ground beef
chopped bacon
tomato sauce
kidney beans
bone broth
apple cider vinegar
chili powder



  • Heat cubed bacon in a large stock pot over medium heat and cook until fully browned. Remove cooked bacon from pan and place on a paper towel lined plate to drain.
  • Add onion, bell peppers, zucchini and carrots into the hot bacon grease and cook for a few minutes until the veggies begin to soften.
  • Add garlic and cook for another minute.
  • Add in meat, cook for 1-2 minutes and then add all the spices.
  • Pour in diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, beans, bone broth and stir. Bring it up to a boil, cover and reduce heat to allow to simmer for 45 minutes. Remove lid, add vinegar and simmer for another 10 minutes. Taste for seasoning and adjust to your liking.
  • Add diced avocado and cooked bacon on top.
