Award Winning Chili

"Chili was a childhood falltime favorite, even if it was straight out of a can. Now as an adult, I make it from scratch and its even better. My kids love it! Thankfully, they'll never know what chili from a can tastes like because their mom loves to cook up a big pot of her award-winning chili."

Directions

Award Winning Chili

1 lb ground beef

5 strips uncooked bacon, chopped

1 large yellow onion, diced

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 1/2 Tablespoon ancho chili powder

1 ½ teaspoons smoked paprika

1 teaspoon cumin

1 teaspoon onion powder

¾ teaspoon ground black pepper

½ teaspoon salt

15 oz can each, dark red kidney & black beans, drained

14.5 oz can diced fire-roasted tomatoes undrained

7- oz can fire roasted green chilis

1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 1/2 cup beef broth

1 Bottle of Black Box® Pinot Noir

Instructions:

Cook in frying pan on medium heat until crisp. Remove bacon to a ‘paper towel lined’ plate and drain grease.

Add onion and garlic in a pot.  Cook until softened, about 3 minutes.  Add ground beef, breaking apart as you cook. Once the meat is partially browned, add all spices- chili powder, paprika, cumin, onion powder, black pepper, & salt.  Stir well.  Add rest of ingredients; both beans, tomatoes, green chilis, Worcestershire sauce and beef broth.  Add the cooked chopped-up bacon and stir well.  If you like a more ‘liquidy’ chili, add more beef broth.  Bring to a boil and cook for 1-2 minutes while stirring.  Reduce heat and simmer 20 min. uncovered, occasionally stirring.  The flavors will develop during this time.  Serve with Black Box® Pinot Noir wine, cornbread and garnish with toppings such as sour cream, shredded cheddar cheese, avocados, and chips.
